<abstract>This GIS file was created to view the Shallow Water Habitat Bank Excavations on a Map "as-built" using a combination of Hand GPS data, 2003 Color Infrared Aerial Photography, 2005 NAIP Photography, Survey Data (when available), and 2000 ortho mosaic aerial photos. The data represents excavations into the high bank, including Pilot Channels, Bank Notches, and Chutes. Select spoil piles were also drawn in the layer for spoil still present in the river and with data readily available. SWH modifications in the river, such as dike notches, revetment notches, dike extensions or other structure modifications, are to be included in a separate shapefile. Shapes represent approximate "as built" conditions, and are thought to be accurate within 10 to 20 feet. As some excavations were not initially successful through either clogging with debris or silt, often the Corps modifies these excavations after observing them for 1 to 2 years following construction. Accordingly, under the attribute column called "Action", the words "Old Excavation" or "Old Spoil" denote an obsolete shape, replaced by a new project.</abstract>
<purpose>This GIS file was create to spatially designate shallow water habitat (SWH) excavations "as-built" on the Missouri River for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District customers. For viewing approximate locations of habitat construction, and to provide a baseline condition to monitor ongoing bank erosion as new aerial photography data becomes available.</purpose>
